Raking More Cash in 2011: Online Income Options

It’s the time of year to put together your New Year’s Resolutions and Goals. We can have so many things in our list (and mostly only get to keep a handful of it) – and one common item in most people’s lists would be several options to double, perhaps triple, his income for the next year. Well, I am no different.  I certainly have my own financial goals for 2011 (lots in fact, but I try to keep them reasonable and realistic as possible). So my plan isn’t really that grand – I am keeping it somewhat simple to the sense that I will stay focused on the task at hand and allowing the chips to fall where they may.
I hope to continue my passive income over the next year and though it’s good to explore a bit more, I somehow believe that staying where I am but perform more would be better for me than having a little of everything yet not totally gaining control of these bits and pieces.

Apart from the admin support job I am doing for an online website, I regularly write for several blogs. On top of that, I also do some articles alongside and post them in revenue-sharing sites. That allows me to stay focused on one activity yet allow multiple streams of income. Though I know of many other opportunities to make some cash online, I prefer to stick to writing but aim to earn more from what I’m normally doing.
While I know for sure how much money I make from my regular job and from maintaining some blogs, I have no direct control over the amount of extra income that I make with my articles from these revenue-sharing sites. But I do have control over my linking efforts to drive more traffic to my written pages. Instead of writing 1 article a week which I only do during my spare time, what if I push it to 3 articles a week. After submitting my posts to revenue-sharing sites, I would make it a point to submit up to 3 backlinks a day. There are many places that allow you create backlinks but as I have seen good results from social bookmarking sites, I would go ahead to using that still while exploring more alternatives.
As not everyone is the same, and each of us have our individual interests (and not one would enjoy writing every single day), I have listed below several other things you might want to do in the coming year to rake some money from the internet and help your regular income a bit:
1. Start your own blog or website and run Adsense ads. This is something you can do alongside your regular job. Though it may sound simple – anyone who owns a website knows how much work it would take especially on the starting stage. Though many would prefer to get a hosted blog on their own domain, you can use free blogs for starters (eventually when you get the hang of it, you can move your free blog to its own domain). Remember, since your aim is to rake more cash, advertisers are more willing to pay higher amount of advertisement for own domain blogs.
Getting a good amount of traffic to your site is the best way to earn from Adsense. You would need quality content to keep visitors from coming back. Yet a great deal of backlinking efforts. That would be an entirely separate post.
2. If you’re the type who finds the idea of running your own website or blog very overwhelming, but you have lots of content to share, you can join websites like Triond, Bukisa and Redage. You can submit your unique articles to them and they pay you based on how many views your post receives. I’m sure you know a lot of other places that do the same. There are also places that pay you upfront for your written works like Associated Content, Helium and Ehow.
3. Take Freelance Jobs. If you have programming skills, if you can create great website designs, or you if you lots of time to spare doing data entry, blogging, proof-reading and virtual assistance jobs, you can to places like Odesk, Elance, Guru, Getafreelancer and similar places. But remember, you can’t just claim being an expert on something and expect people to hire you that quick. You have to take some qualifying tests and prove your worth. Trust me, I have been here, this is among the most profitable things to do online. You get to make money from your talent while solving other people’s online needs. If you have a regular job, taking the hourly jobs from these places would definitely interfere with your schedule. Fix-priced jobs might better work for you.
4. Take Micro Jobs. This is perfect for people who have little extra time but wants to make the most of it anyway. I know of a place called Microworkers. It is a very unique website that allows you to earn small amounts of money for little things you do (otherwise known as micro jobs) that means a lot to job-requesters (the Employers). You don’t have to be an expert on something to earn money here. With just posting comments on other people’s blogs, Voting for their photo contest entry, Subscribing to their Youtube channel, Adding them as your friend in Facebook, Retweeting their post, Bookmarking their page, downloading their free e-book or reviewing their product on Amazon, you get to earn around $0.10 to close to $10 for bigger tasks.
The big difference here is, unlike in the Freelance websites mentioned above, you don’t have to bid to take a job. Just refresh your page to find new jobs that are added regularly throughout the day, perform them quickly (a task can only take about 1-5 minutes to complete) and get cash for it. Perfect for amateurs or anyone who wants some extra cash without much pressure and commitment. By the way, I have seen similar places around the internet. Don’t bother wasting your times on these clones. You certainly don’t wanna throw away the only few minutes you have left for nothing. I have been doing microjobs on Microworkers for over a year now and since we all aim to get paid, I am sticking to the only place I trust.
5. Sell stuff online. Online marketplaces like Ebay, Craigslist and Amazon allows anyone from around the world to make profits from selling almost anything. It can be a used DVD player or re-sell a book you didn’t even write. You would be surprised how many people from around the world would buy almost anything. Dig out that old guitar you never play, those CDs you don’t listen to anymore, or those clutter lying around your house which you never really need. Think of these places like an online garage sale. Just make sure you take the necessary precautions so you don’t end up getting scammed.
Feel free to comment and briefly list some of your own goals for 2011.  I will be looking out for your posts as well.  I hope everyone has a safe and Happy New Year and a productive 2011!
